THE continuing crisis in Zamboanga City forced the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to transfer the staging of the 2013 Batang Pinoy National Finals to Bacolod City on November 19 to 23.

PSC Commissioner Jolly Gomez, the overall in-charge of the competition for young athletes 15 years old and below, said that they have decided to move to a new venue because Zam-boanga City is now rebuilding from the damages it sustained from the recent armed conflict.

“Besides, the track oval in Zamboanga City, which is the main venue for the five-day sports fest is currently being used as evacuation center. It will take months to bring back the track oval on track. And another thing is the concern of the parents of the athletes, particularly the safety of the participants,” said Gomez.

The Mindanao elimination leg was held in Tagum, Davao del Norte on August 27 to 31, while the Visayas leg is slated September 24 to 28 in Maasin City, Southern Leyte. The Luzon qualifying will follow on October 15 to 19 in Iba, Zambales.
