WITH NATIONAL athletes leading the way, some 10,000 runners are expected to see action in the Philippine Sports Commission's "Run for Your Heart" on Sunday, Feb. 14, marking the agency's 20th anniversary as well as the celebration of the Chinese New Year and Valentines Day.
Race starts at 6 a.m. which will fire off in front of the Rizal Monument and will end at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila covering a 10-kilometer distance.
PSC chair Harry Angping said the event is the agency's way of reaching to the grassroots and making the masses aware of the importance of sports and physical fitness.
The event will be sponsored by XTEP Corp. of China, Pepsi-Gatorade Corp., in cooperation with the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF), with the participation of the Ateneo Law School, Greenhills Running Club, Pinoy Ultra Runners and Philippine Skyrunners Association (PSA).
There will also be 3-kilometer and 5-km events in the race which has likewise lured participants from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, different running clubs, and members of civic organizations such as Jaycees, Lions, and Rotary clubs, enthusiasts, schools and the PSC family.
Finishers and participants will get race shirts and bib and free “tikoy”. Cash prizes await the winners for both male and female categories.
For the 10K run, gold, silver and bronze medalists will receive P10,000, P5,000, and P3,000 respectively. For the 5K run, winners will take home P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000. Prizes for 3K are P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000.
The 3k run is open to all runners. Registration fee for the 5K run is P100 while for 10K event P200.
Lending their support in the race are Unilab and Enervon, Omega Painkiller Pro and Casino Regular Alcohol, Circular and Lung Care Plus, Mang Inasal, Rudy Project, WS Sports, Bayview Park Hotel, Orchid Garden Suites, Inasal at Iba pa, Ever Bilena, Accel, Everlast, Milo-Nestle Phils., McDonald’s-Harrison Plaza, Mary Kay, Purefoods, Zest-O and C2 iced tea.
Aside from the fun run, participants and spectators will have a musical treat from live bands and dragon dances at the Quirino Grandstand for the first day of the “Year of the Tiger”.
Registration period is still ongoing at the PSC Administrative Division from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Feb. 13. On-site registration on Feb. 14 begins at 4 a.m. at the registration booths installed at the Quirino Grandstand.

In line with the year-long celebration of its 20th anniversary and coinciding with the Chinese New Year, the Philippine Sports Commission will be staging a first ever open Fun Run dubbed “Run For Your Heart” on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2010, 6:00 am at the Luneta Park.
For the 3k, 5k and 10k categories, the agency is targeting 10,000 to 12,000 participants from families, students, national athletes, the Armed Forces , the National Police, Ateneo Law School, Greenhills Running Club, Philippine Skyrunners Association, PSC employees and other sports enthusiasts.
“Aside from wellness and healthy lifestyle, we hope to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants of the Fun Run,” said Chairman Angping.

“In ushering the first day of the year of the Tiger, we enjoin everyone to have fun with their family and friends with firework displays, live band music and dragon and tiger dances,” Chairman Angping added.
Registration fees range from P200 for 10k and P100 for 5k. The 3k run is free of charge.
The top three finisher in the 10k run will receive P10,000, P5,000 and P3,000, respectively, while the top three in the 5k will get P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000 and the top three for 3k, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000.
