The Philippines through the Philippine Sports Commission plays host to the Southeast Asia RADO Board Meeting from May 14 – 16 at the Heritage Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.

PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, together with the Board of Commissioners, and Dr. Alejandro V. Pineda, Jr. Head of the Doping Control Unit at the PSC’s Philippine Center for Sports Medicine and concurrently a Member of the Southeast RADO Board will welcome Anti-doping delegates from ASEAN member countries, as well as World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), including its Asia/Oceana Regional Office; and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) officals led by Rob Koehler, Kazuhiro Hayashi, Dr. Hilary Inwood, and Mahmoud Khalifah Ali for the 3-day meet.

“Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo, who approved the holding of this regional meet, is a staunch supporter of the anti-doping campaign of the WADA and this is manifested by our government’s continued commitment to the ratification and adoption of the Convention Against Doping both here and elsewhere in the world,” declared Chairman Ramirez.

It is both our obligation and pleasure to host the Regional Anti-Doping Organization Meeting that aims to provide member nations the necessary updates and trends in sport anti-doping,” added Ramirez.

There are three highlights of this meeting, declared Dr. Pineda: “They are the creation and discussion on the Therapeutic Use Exemption Sub-committee (TUE Sub-committee); the implementation on the Athletes Whereabouts Information, and the ratification of the International Convention Against Doping by the Philippine government,” he said.

In addition, the meeting will also provide the delegates with the necessary TUE Training and Results Management Workshops.

Doping has been a problem in sport where some athletes take in substances that enhance their performance during competitions. These have been banned by most, if not all, countries and the WADA and RADO are aimed at eliminating their use through various means, including In and Out-of-competition testing of these athletes.

We play fair. We play according to the rules. We play true,” jointly declared Ramirez and Pineda, echoing the slogan of the WADA. -
